Achaearanea
tepidariorum
Common House Spider
Family Theridiidae

Female with egg sac & emergent spiderlings |
| Achaearenea tepidariorum is common cosmopolitan species
frequently found in buildings as well as many other places, including trees,
road cuts and cliffs. It is a baby pea-sized spider
that routinely take prey much larger than itself, sometimes hundreds of
times larger. These include large caterpillars as well as powerful and
potentially dangerous prey like Jerusalem crickets.
Part of this skill comes from adept use of silk but much
is due to a potent venom. |
