P. cambridgei is an arboreal tarantula from Trinidad, which can make fairly extensive retreats in crevices in cliffs, amongst tree roots. It is fast, an excellent climber and can be aggressive.
This species was initially imported into the United States in the 1990's and has been propagated by numerous breeders, so it is still available in spite of export restrictions from Trinidad.
This venom has been a source for numerous discoveries, including:
PcTx1: Acid sensitive ion channel antagonist
Vanillotoxins: Capsaicin receptor agonists (chili pepper toxins)
Psalmopeotoxins: Lethal to malaria plasmodia
