The family Buthidae includes all as well as Arizona's only hazardous scorpions. Their venom contain several neurotoxic peptides that can cause severe pain and other symptoms.
More research has been done on the venoms of these scorpions than all other families combined. In comparison, venoms from other families have been neglected.
Availability
Centruroides exilicauda are collected locally during warmer months, when they are fairly easy to find in large number by blacklight, on moonless nights.
The other buthids are generally purchased from importers and dealers. Availability tends to be spotty.
Please inquire if you have any questions about these or would like to get venom from unlisted species.
