Achaearanea tepidariorum
This pea-sized,
non-hazardous relative of black widow spiders is excellent for beginning
spider watchers and is also very popular for embryology and developmental
studies. |

Larinioides cornutus
Orbweavers are frequently used to investigate
very subtle and non-lethal short and long-term effects of chemicals on
behavior. Web building
experiments and science projects are relatively easy, do not require
detailed knowledge of spiders and can produce impressive and
thought-provoking results. |

Agelenopsis aperta
This is our
largest funnelweb weaver, which excellent for observational studies and
lessons since it easy to observe and will make webs, feed and mate readily
in captivity. It is also large enough for use in teaching anatomy and
dissection. |

Physocyclus mexicanus
This relatively
large and leggy cellar spider is quasi-social, often found in large and
dense colonies or family groups in pack rat dens in
deserts of the SW. It is an incredibly hardy spider that is excellent for live animal
displays and observational studies. |
