Eggs

Eggs from a wide variety of species are supplied on a custom basis for use in developmental biology, embryology and other purposes.

Eggs from some species (Achaearanea tepidariorum, Larinioides cornutus, Latrodectus mactans and a few others) are usually available readily and can be obtained in relatively large quantities but availability of most others is erratic or seasonal and they require advance planning.

Bred Females or Breeding Spiders

Sub-adult or adult female and male spiders and/or bred females may also be provided. These may be more useful in some cases, particularly if early embryonic stages are needed.

Typically, we try to introduce 2 or 3 males to each female but may not watch to confirm palp insertion. Egg laying may start within 4-5 days for some spiders (e.g. Achaearanea tepidariorum) or weeks later. This varies with species, temperature, humidity and food.
